Born and raised in Chillicothe, Ohio, less than 100 miles away from Cincinnati, where I grew up. In 1960, her debut single “Guess Who I Saw Today” was a big hit., and at the same year she signed with Capitol Records. In 1962 she collaborated with Cannonball Adderley. The photo was taken at the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival, in 1963. Interestingly, I became an Art Director at Capitol Records in 1971. Nancy went on to become a big star, winning Grammys, having her own TV show, acting in movies, and collected a long list of awards. She was also a major figure in the civil rights movement.
